Team USA’s Cory Schneider Reveals Patriotic Pads for World Cup

When the World Cup begins on Sept. 17, there may not be a goaltender with more patriotic pads than Team USA’s Cory Schneider.

On Thursday, Vaughn Hockey tweeted a picture of the Massachusetts native’s pads, which are red, white and blue and form the shape of an American flag.

Schneider, the starting goaltender for the New Jersey Devils, has been known to get creative with his equipment in the past and wore pads with guitars stitched into them at the 2016 NHL All-Star Game in Nashville- a city known as the “Country Music Capital of the World.”

Patriotic equipment aside, the United States will enter the tournament with one of the deepest goaltending cores of any of the eight teams. Schneider is part of a Team USA goaltending group that also includes the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Ben Bishop and Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings. Bishop made headlines in July when he revealed the unique mask he will be wearing at the World Cup which also pays tribute to the USA.

Here’s to hoping we see Schneider stack the pads at least once during the tournament to show off the American flag!
