Bill Peters to Coach Team Canada at World Championships

Carolina Hurricanes bench boss Bill Peters has been appointed to the head coach position for Team Canada at the 2016 World Championships, Hockey Canada announced Tuesday. He’ll be aided by Ottawa Senators head coach Dave Cameron, former Minnesota Wild head coach Mike Yeo and Hockey Canada’s Misha Donskov, who all serve as assistant coaches.

Peters, now in his second season as head coach in Raleigh, served as an assistant coach during Canada’s gold medal win at last year’s World Championship and will also serve as an assistant at the 2016 World Cup under Mike Babcock.

Hockey Canada president and CEO Tom Renney said the following about the appointment of this coaching team:

This group brings experience and a continuity that will serve us well not only at worlds, but as we look toward the World Cup of Hockey in September. There’s been a lot of work done over the last month by the management team to put this coaching staff into place, and more to come as we start pulling together our roster, but I’m confident with the direction and the staff as we look to defend our championship title in May.

The 2016 World Championship kicks off May 6 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.
