Niklas Kronwall Injured Saturday, Leaves Game

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall has only been back in the lineup for seven games since being sidelined with a knee injury. In Saturday’s matinee against the New York Rangers, it looks like Kronwall may have succumb to another, similar injury.

The team hasn’t said what the injury is, but Kronwall left Saturday’s game — and the team announced that he won’t be returning — after he had his leg pinned between goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Andreas Athanasiou.

He threw his head back in pain as he went down and had to be helped off the ice.

Below is a video of the incident.

Kronwall, an alternate captain for the Wings, leads the time in ice time with an average of 22:41 on the year. If it’s anything that keeps him off the ice, it’ll be a big loss at a crucial point in the season for the Red Wings, who have their playoff streak at risk again this season.
