New York Rangers Sign Eeli Tolvanen to a 1-Year Contract

On Sept. 1, the New York Rangers signed forward Eeli Tolvanen to a one-year contract. He receives $1.5 million in average annual value (AAV).

Tolvanen began his NHL career with the Nashville Predators, who drafted him 30th overall in 2017. He played there for five seasons, appearing in 135 games and recording 51 points. In the middle of the 2022-23 season, the team placed him on waivers, and the Seattle Kraken claimed him on Dec. 12. He played 288 games in Seattle and recorded 139 points.

Rangers Add Depth Player in Tolvanen

Tolvanen is a great player in his prime with a high hockey IQ. He has a great shot, and he knows how to find scoring chances, making sure to shoot the puck when it’s on his stick and he has a good opportunity.

Tolvanen is a strong middle-six forward who can also eat minutes when the top line needs a rest. Last season, he recorded a career-high average of 16:03 per game. Since he made the NHL full-time, he has not averaged less than 13 minutes a season.

Tolvanen also has the chance to reach some career milestones this year. He surpassed 400 games in 2025-26, and if he plays all 84 games in 2026-27, he will reach 500 NHL games with the Rangers. He is also 10 points shy of 200, eight goals away from 100, and two assists away from 100.

He is at the prime age to continue honing his skills, while the Rangers know they are getting a fantastic player who will be ready to help them win games.
