We have regular season hockey this month, finally.
Now that September is here, the season is right around the corner, and the Edmonton Oilers hope to have a successful campaign and finally win their first Stanley Cup since 1990. They have come close in two of the past three seasons, losing in the Stanley Cup Final twice, and have made some significant changes they hope will finally get them the championship they’re looking for.
In this edition of Oilers News and Rumours, we take a look at a few updates around the team, including some injury updates, a long-time reporter leaving the organization, and more.
Tony Brar Departs Oilers’ Organization
Long-time reporter Tony Brar, who was a familiar face for Oilers fans at Rogers Place, announced on social media yesterday that he is leaving the organization after eight years.
The best eight years of my life.

On August 20, 2018, I walked into this organization as a wide-eyed reporter who was set to live out a childhood dream.
Today, I leave having lived something much greater.

There was no update on who would be replacing Brar, or where he would be heading next.
Oilers Announce Injury Issues
The Oilers announced recently that Matthew Savoie, Mattias Janmark, Alec Regula, and Frederik Andersen were dealing with injuries and would miss training camp.

In their statement, they wrote, “Both Mattias Janmark and Alec Regula continue to recover from medical procedures performed last season and shortly after the season concluded, respectively, while Matt Savoie and Frederik Andersen are currently rehabilitating injuries which occurred during off-season training sessions.”
As of this point, no further updates are available on timelines for their respective returns. There seems to be no reason to be worried that any of them will be out for an extended period of time, for now.
Quinn Hutson Among Potential Surprises on Opening Night Roster?
General manager Stan Bowman mentioned Isaac Howard, Quinn Hutson, and Josh Samanski as players who could now get more of an opportunity to push for a regular spot in the Oilers’ lineup.
He also mentioned Aku Raty and Eduards Tralmaks as AHL players who could get more of a look in training camp.
It seems like, with some injuries to key players, the Oilers will look internally instead of offering any PTOs or new contracts to free agents.
Devon Levi: Chance to Prove Himself
With Andersen missing some time to start the season, newcomer Devon Levi will have a chance to prove himself in a tandem with Tristan Jarry. It’s fair to assume the two of them will split starts until one of them establishes themselves as the starter.
When Andersen returns, they will go back to a three-goalie tandem, but if Levi proves himself to be a trustworthy starter and Jarry can’t find his game, it’s safe to say Jarry will fall to the third string and Levi-Andersen will be the trusted duo as the season moves along.
The Oilers get underway on September 29th against the Vancouver Canucks, where they hope they can finally get off to a solid start under a new coaching staff, and an almost brand new lineup.
