Jets’ Scheifele Named NHL First Star of the Week

Winnipeg Jets centre Mark Scheifele has been named the NHL’s first star of the week ending March 8.

The 32 year old potted three goals and added five assists for eight points in three games as the Jets went 3-0-0 to get back to .500 on the season.

He scored the overtime winner in the 3-2 comeback victory over Chicago Blackhawks on March 3 as part of a three-point night, had a goal and an assist in the 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 5, and recorded one goal and two assists in the 3-2 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks on March 7.

The Jets alternate captain leads the team in goals (30), assists (48), and points (78) in 62 games. He is on pace to set a new career high in points and also on pace to be the first Jet in the 2.0 era to record 100 points in a season.

The Jets are back in action Tuesday, March 10 when they host the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth game of an eight-game homestand at Canada Life Centre.
