Tomas Fleischmann Released From Wild Camp

The Minnesota Wild have parted ways with Tomas Fleischmann, who was invited to training camp on a professional tryout (PTO). General manager Chuck Fletcher revealed the team will not be keeping him after, as reported Friday, Fleischmann failed his physical on the first day of training camp.

The team did not disclose what the issue was, out of respect for Fleischmann’s privacy. He has dealt with blood clots in the past, but it’s not clear that it’s something that serious. Statements made by Fletcher and coach Bruce Boudreau indicate that it’s not so serious that it will prevent him from playing this season. They seem to indicate that he could join another club, but that the Wild just aren’t willing to take a chance on him at this moment.

“He’s such a good person, it’s unfortunate,” Boudreau told the Star Tribune’s Michael Russo. “So I hope he catches on somewhere else. It’s just a disappointment. I like him enough that I want to see him succeed somewhere.”

The team will continue to evaluate young players like Tyler Graovac, Alex Tuch, Joel Eriksson Ek and Christoph Bertschy during camp to see if they’re ready to fill opens spots on the roster. If not, the team still has Ryan Carter at camp on a tryout. They also have the ability to scout players who are currently skating with other clubs on a tryout. Any player on a tryout is free to sign with any team in the league at any point.
