Sharks Sign Jeremy Roy to ELC

The San Jose Sharks have signed 2015 2nd round draft pick Jeremy Roy to a three-year, entry-level contract, according to War On Ice.

According to War On Ice, the deal is worth $889,167, near the ceiling on an ELC, and provides him with a signing bonus but little for a performance bonus. Just a “games played” bonus available in the first year of the deal.

Roy fell in the draft, pegged by many as a 1st round defenseman — including Bob McKenzie, who had him at 29th and Central Scouting, who had him 21st among NA skaters.

He ultimately didn’t fall too far, with the Sharks grabbing him with the first pick of the 2nd round. The Sharks made a draft day trade to grab the 31st pick from the Colorado Avalanche, who had acquired the pick from Buffalo in the Ryan O’Reilly.

Roy, who stands six feet tall and 185 pounds, isn’t expected to be in the NHL this season, but will most likely return to the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL, where he posted five goals and 38 assists through 46 games last year. He’ll also have a shot making Canada’s World Junior Championship squad, which would be great for the 18-year-old’s development.
