Maple Leafs Sign Mitch Marner to Entry-Level Deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed 2015 Draft Pick (4th overall) Mitch Marner to a three-year, entry-level deal, the team announced on Tuesday.

The deal carries an AAV of 925,000 with signing bonuses. Elliotte Friedman notes that the contract comes with “Level A” bonuses and that the use of those bonuses runs contrary to new GM Lou Lamoriello’s previous self-imposed rules, but that since negotiations began prior to Lamoriello’s arrival that an exception was made.

Marner finished second in the OHL scoring race last season, posting 44 goals and 82 assists over 63 games for the London Knights, averaging exactly two points per game.

Marner will be a part of Hockey Canada National Teams’ Summer Showcase, which begins on Saturday, in advance of the the 2016 World Juniors Championships.
