Kings Sign Tyler Toffoli to 2-Year Extension

The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Tyler Toffoli to a two-year contract extension worth $6.5 million, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

The deal will pay Toffoli $2.6 million in the first year and $3.9 million in the second, according to ESPN’s Peirre LeBrun. That will make for a $3.2 million cap hit.

The 23-year-old winger posted 23 goals and 26 assists last year, his second full NHL season. Both marks were career highs. He hit these numbers as a part of “That 70s Line” — while the line was fully healthy — which also featured Tanner Pearson and Jeff Carter and was arguably one of the best lines in the NHL for the first half of the season.

Toffoli also posted a very impressive 2.45 P/60 and a 2.44% CF%Rel. He is already a great player and there’s no reason to believe he’s revealed his ceiling yet. This is a great deal for the Kings, who are locking up a couple more years of one of their most exciting young players. It also alleviates any fear of an offer sheet.

It’s also a great deal for Toffoli, who will be up to $3.9 million in the second year and have good grounds to be looking for well north of that in his next contract if his game continues to grow.
