Hurricanes Re-Sign Primeau, Brind’Amour, & Robidas

The Carolina Hurricanes have ramped up the news as we get closer to the 2026-27 season, with network names, streaming partnerships, contract signings, and more. On Wednesday morning, management announced three contracts.

Cayden Primeau

After being a rock in the crease for the organization’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Chicago Wolves, last season, the Hurricanes re-signed goaltender Cayden Primeau to a two-year, $1.83 million deal. In 39 games, he had a 21-11-7 record, a 2.41 goals-against average (GAA), a .916 save percentage (SV%), and four shutouts. During the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs, he had a 9-9-0 record, a 2.72 GAA, and a .913 SV%.

The deal’s annual average value (AAV) is worth $912,500 in the NHL. While in the AHL, he will make $850,000 in 2026-27 and $975,000 in 2027-28. In June, Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said of Primeau, “He’s a very good goalie who’s also capable of playing NHL games if we need him to.”

He played three games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2025-26 after being claimed off waivers and then placed back on waivers, finishing with a 2-1-0 record, a .838 SV%, and a 4.30 GAA, showing he is capable of playing in the NHL if the Hurricanes need him. He is a reliable third-string goalie to help back up Brandon Bussi and Pyotr Kochetkov, who are expected to be the team’s tandem heading into 2026-27.

Skyler Brind’Amour

For the third straight year, the Hurricanes have signed forward Skyler Brind’Amour to a one-year, two-way deal. He will be paid $850,000 at the NHL level and $125,000 at the AHL level. The deal also includes at least a $225,000 guarantee. In his first two seasons with the organization, he was paid $775,000 annually.

During the 2025-26 season with the Wolves, Brind’Amour tallied 16 goals and 34 points in 68 games. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, he scored two goals and four points in 21 games. He also saw time with the Hurricanes last season, playing four games but did not register a point. In 2024-25, Brind’Amour had 16 goals and 24 points in 68 games with the Wolves, along with one goal in two games with the Hurricanes.

Justin Robidas

To round out the trio of signings, the Hurricanes will bring back Justin Robidas on a one-year, two-way deal. The deal will pay him $850,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the AHL level. It also includes at least a $125,000 guarantee.

During the 2025-26 season, Robidas finished with 23 goals and 60 points in 58 games. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, he tallied seven goals and 16 points in 21 games. Robidas’ second season with the Wolves showed real improvement after scoring 20 goals and 55 points in 70 games in 2024-25. In over 128 games in the AHL, the Texas native has tallied 43 goals and 115 points.

Bringing back Robidas will give Wolves head coach Spiros Anastas some flexibility to figure out his center depth for the season. Along with Robidas and Brind’Amour, Anastas will have Ivan Ryabkin, Charlie Carrato, and possibly Josiah Slavin to find the right line matchups.

These are smart signings for Tulsky. Bringing back Primeau, Brind’Amour, and Robidas will provide nice depth to the organization, while giving the Wolves a chance to defend their Western Conference title. Could we see any of them with the Hurricanes this season? We will find out soon enough.
