Hockey News: Alfredsson Leaves Ottawa; Tyler Seguin Drama

Unlike recent trade deadlines that are normally all hype and no substance, free agent frenzy 2013 came as advertised.[TSN]

The biggest news of the day came out of Ottawa, as long time Senator and beloved captain Daniel Alfredsson left to chase a Cup. To a team that may or may not be any closer to a Cup than the Senators. [Senators Extra]

The Red Wings also picked up Stephen Weiss, but last we checked he’s not a defenceman, and unless Nick Lidstrom comes out of retirement there are some huge question marks on Detroit’s blueline. [Bleacher Report]

It was going take a lot to soften the blow of losing Alfie, but landing one of the best young power forwards in the game kind of helped. [6th Sens]
