Goalies Take Ceremonial Faceoff With Martin Brodeur

The New Jersey Devils are taking some time to celebrate the recently retired Martin Brodeur, including a number retirement and an unveiling of a statue on Tuesday, February 9. In advance of that ceremony, the team brought in Broedur to drop a ceremonial puck before Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals.

It was a ceremonial puck drop with a twist. It wasn’t the teams’ captains meeting the Devils legend at center ice, but goaltenders Cory Schneider and Braden Holtby.

All three seemed to get a kick out of the unusual ceremony, which you can watch below.

The Devils will retire Brodeur’s #30 on Tuesday, as well as unveiling the statue of one of the franchise’s great (the greatest?) players. He was the man between the pipes for every Stanley Cup win in franchise history. In addition to those three Cup wins, he also won the Vezina Trophy four times, won the Calder Trophy, is a eight-time All-Star (four first team selections, four second team selections) and was a part of a William M. Jennings Trophy winning duo five times.
