Filip Forsberg Signs 6-Year, $36 Million Extension

The Nashville Predators announced today that they’ve re-signed forward Filip Forsberg for six years.

Forsberg, 21, was acquired by Nashville in a 2013 trade with the Washington Capitals that saw Michael Latta and Martin Erat head to D.C. Since that deal, Forsberg has been a major part of the Predators’ offensive attack, totaling north of 60 points in each of the last two seasons and surpassing 30 goals in 2015-16. He led the team in both goals and total points both years and finished fourth in voting for the Calder Trophy in 2014-15.

His 63 points in 2014-15 also set a single season rookie scoring record for the Predators. His 33 goals in 2015-16 tied the franchise’s single season record, as Jason Arnott is the only other player to reach that mark (2008-09).

The Capitals originally selected Forsberg with their first round pick (11th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The Predators made this signing a priority this summer for obvious reasons and wanted to get a deal in place as soon as possible. Forsberg’s contract will carry a cap hit of $6 million and does not include a no-trade clause in eligible seasons.
