The Anaheim Ducks have signed recent acquisition and restricted free agent Carl Hagelin to a four-year contract, the team announced on Friday. The team did not disclose the details of the contract.
However, we waited seven minutes and the Orange County Register’s Eric Stephens reported the deal is worth $16 million total, with a $4 million AAV. That’s just slightly north of Jakob Silfverberg’s new four-year deal worth an AAV of $3.75 million.
Hagelin joined the Ducks this summer in a trade with the New York Rangers that sent Emerson Etem to New York. Hagelin’s deal (and the need to move him) stems in part from the Rangers giving him a solid two-year, $2.25 million contract building up to this one.

Last year the 26-year-old left wing played all 82 games for the Rangers, scoring 17 goals and 18 assists, then adding two goals and three assists through 19 postseason matches. It’s a big pay day for his production, but Hagelin can add a lot to the team and it buys up a bit of his UFA years as well.
