Coyotes Waive John Scott

6-foot-8 enforcer John Scott was been waived by the Arizona Coyotes, according to TVA’s Renaud Lavoie.

Scott signed with the Coyotes in July as an unrestricted free agent following a season with the San Jose Sharks. His time in Glendale has been unremarkable, playing just two games and finding himself a healthy scratch in the rest.

In those two games he was used infrequently, averaging just 7:16 of ice time. He has contributed one shot and 12 penalty minutes in that pair of games.

That 7:16 average TOI is down from the 7:27 he saw with San Jose last season, which itself was the most he’d averaged since playing with the Minnesota Wild in the 2009-10 season. The 7:27 average came with three goals and an assist, a career-high total in the goal and point departments for Scott.

It’s not yet clear if the ‘Yotes will assign Scott to the AHL if he clear waivers or if they’re just looking to clear the salary of a player they aren’t using in the event of another team having interest in the 33-year-old pugilist. His contract is for a single season at $575,000.

Scott has played for seven teams in his eight-year career, finding his way into 276 games with five goals, five assists, and 529 penalty minutes.

UPDATE:
Scott has cleared waivers and has not been claimed.
