Colin Miller, Joe Morrow Ink New Deals With Boston

The Boston Bruins have re-signed defensemen Colin Miller and Joe Morrow to new deals, the team announced this week.

Miller’s deal is a two-year, one-way contract carrying an AAV of $1 million, while Morrow’s deal is a one-year, one-way deal carrying a value of $800,000.

Miller was a rookie last season, earning significant NHL ice time for the first time. He played 42 games, scoring three goals and 16 points. Many argued that Miller should have seen more ice than he did, posting a 4.7% CF%Rel, the best among all Bruins defenseman last year.

The 23-year-old Morrow was playing in his second season of NHL time, grabbing just 33 games due to injury. In that time he had a goal and seven points. He posted a -1.2% CF%Rel, the worst mark of all Bruins defenders.

The depth defensive signings are crucial for a Bruins team that is still figuring out how their blue lie will improve in the coming season. Zdeno Chara is still clearly the leader, but as he ages there isn’t a clear succession plan, with what seems to be a lot of middle pairing defenders aside from Torey Krug.
