Canucks Sign Goaltender Michael Garteig

The Vancouver Canucks have signed free agent goaltender Michael Garteig out of Quinnipiac to a one-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Friday.

Garteig lead all NCAA goaltenders in wins last season with 38, helping Quinnipiac enter the NCAA tournament as the nation’s No. 1 ranked team. There, he helped them push their way to their second appearance in the national championship game in the last four years. This time, they fell to the University of North Dakota.

His .924 save percentage ranked 18th in the nation this year and helped him to be named his team’s most valuable player. He was also named to the third All-Star Team in the ECAC.

It was his fourth season of college hockey, and third as Quinnipiac’s starter. Prior to that he spent time playing for Penticton and Powell in the BCHL.
