Blues Make it Official: Jake Allen is Staying Put

The St. Louis Blues made it official on Friday, they’ll be committing to Jake Allen for a little while longer. The team signed him to a two-year contract extension.

Allen, a restricted free agent, got into 37 games last season, his official rookie year and second season catching NHL games. The 2008 2nd round draft pick posted an impressive .913 Sv% and wound up take the reins for the Blues in the playoffs, playing in all six games they had before making a first round exit against the Minnesota Wild. He recorded a .906 all situation Sv% in the postseason.

He also set a franchise rookie record last season by logging 184:38 consecutive shutout minutes starting on October 23.

Allen’s two-year deal puts him on the same time frame as fellow St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott, who has two years remaining on a three-year deal that carries an AAV of $2.5 million. Allen will be just 25 years old when the season starts, while Elliott is 30.

The financial details of the contract were not immediately available.

Andy Strickland has the financial details. The deal carries an AAV of $2.35 million, just south of Elliott’s deal.
