Blues’ Logan Mailloux Out at Least 8 Weeks After Surgery on Right Hand

The St. Louis Blues will be without defenseman Logan Mailloux for the foreseeable future after he underwent successful surgery on his right hand and is expected to be re-evaluated in eight weeks.

Mailloux suffered the injury during the Blues’ final preseason game against the Chicago Blackhawks, when he dropped the gloves with Chicago forward Cole Smith. The 23-year-old left the game following the fight and was later diagnosed with an injury to his right hand.

The 23-year-old appeared in 67 games for the Blues last season after being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens on July 1, 2025. Mailloux recorded five goals and eight assists for 13 points with 48 penalty minutes in his first season with St. Louis. He was originally selected by Montreal with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

His absence has already forced the Blues to make changes to their defensive group. Prospect Adam Jiricek was recalled after being sent down, giving the 2024 first-round pick another opportunity to compete for NHL minutes. St. Louis also claimed Justin Barron off waivers from the Nashville Predators, while Calle Rosen was placed on waivers.

Those moves could make Mailloux’s return more complicated than simply stepping back into the lineup. The Blues now have additional options on defense, and the players who receive opportunities while Mailloux is recovering will have a chance to establish themselves in his absence.

That means Mailloux will have something to prove when he is healthy enough to return. Before the injury, he was competing for his place in the lineup. Now, he’ll have to work his way back into the picture and show the coaching staff that he deserves to reclaim his spot.

The Blues will have to navigate the opening portion of the season without him, with his eight-week re-evaluation serving as the next major checkpoint in his recovery. Until then, St. Louis will rely on its newly adjusted defensive group to fill the void left by one of its young defensemen.

The Blues are also dealing with another injury on defense, as Tyler Tucker was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. Tucker is considered week-to-week after appearing in 69 games for St. Louis last season, recording three goals and 14 assists for 17 points.
