Hurricanes Win 4th Straight Game After Rolling Over Blackhawks 5-2

After starting the season 0-1-1, the Carolina Hurricanes have shown why they’re the defending Stanley Cup Champions, winning their last four games. If their game on Thursday night against the Vancouver Canucks was impressive, Saturday night’s contest against the Chicago Blackhawks showed they meant business, winning 5-2 in the Windy City.

Multi-Point Nights Lead to Fourth Straight Win

Heading into Saturday night’s game, Jackson Blake had a four-game point streak, with five assists over that span. He had two assists against the Canucks Thursday night, earning him his first multi-point night of the season. On Saturday night, he earned another multi-point game; this time with a goal and an assist.

Blake is now on a five-game point streak with one goal and seven points in six games. After finishing with 22 goals and 53 points in 81 games, he is off to a roaring start in his third NHL season. Safe to say he is already living up to his $5.117 million average annual value contract, which he signed last summer and that kicked in this past July 1.

Jordan Martinook entered the game on Saturday night looking for his first points of the season. While he was pointless through the first five games of 2026-27, he was still doing what he does best: shutting down the other team’s best players on the third line with captain Jordan Staal and on the penalty kill.

Thankfully for Martinook, he is finally on the scoresheet after six games. He finished the night with the secondary assist on the Blake goal and scored on a nifty backhanded shot, sliding it five-hole on Blackhawks netminder Spencer Knight. After finishing last season with 12 goals and 29 points in 77 games, it’s probably a relief for him to tally his first goal and two points of the season.

After the win over the Blackhawks, Martinook was asked about the total team effort. “Every single line is contributing. The defense is playing some of the best hockey I think I’ve ever seen the group play together. They’re tight on everything. The sticks are incredible. It’s been a real together group for the last little bit here, and it’s been fun to watch.”

The third player to have a multi-point night was defenseman Mike Reilly. After finishing last season with one goal and nine points in 42 games, it was unclear how the Hurricanes would utilize him in 2026-27. In four games, he has two assists for the season after tallying his first two points against the Blackhawks. After slotting into the lineup as the sixth defenseman to play alongside Shayne Gostisbehere, it’s like he’s played with the Hurricanes for a few years, not just a tad over one season.

Other notable players who kept certain streaks alive were Sebastian Aho, Mark Jankowski, and Taylor Hall. Aho scored his fifth goal in five games, pushing his point streak to five. Jankowski’s point streak is up to three games after scoring a goal in each of the last three contests. Hall is now on a three-game point streak, tallying three goals and two assists over that span.

After dropping the first two games of the season, the Hurricanes are now 4-1-1 after winning their last four contests. It may have taken them a couple of games to find their footing, but now they are absolutely rolling after six games into the 2026-27 season. They face the Philadelphia Flyers for the second time in eight games on Sunday night, completing the weekend back-to-back.
